Cristian Volpato

Cristian Volpato is an Australian attacking midfielder who grew up in Sydney before developing through AS Roma's academy and subsequently joining Sassuolo. He made his senior debut for Australia in June 2026 after previously representing Italy at youth level.

Volpato came through youth clubs in Sydney — including Sydney United 58 FC, Sydney FC, and Western Sydney Wanderers — before moving to AS Roma's academy in January 2020. He signed his first professional contract with Roma in 2021 and made his Serie A debut against Inter Milan in December of that year at 18 years of age, going on to make 14 appearances with 2 goals.

In June 2023, Roma sold him to Sassuolo for €7.5 million — the third-highest fee ever for an Australian player. He accumulated 72 appearances and 7 goals for Sassuolo, winning the Serie B title in 2024–25. Having initially declined Australia's 2022 World Cup squad offer, he committed to the Socceroos and made his senior debut in a friendly against Switzerland in June 2026.
