Jalal Hassan

Iraq's first-choice goalkeeper and captain, the only Iraqi goalkeeper to start three consecutive AFC Asian Cup campaigns. He led Iraq to the 2023 Arabian Gulf Cup — their first in 35 years — and has over 100 senior caps for the national team.

Hassan began his career at Karbala SC before joining Erbil SC in 2012 as a backup, then establishing himself as the undisputed first choice in goal for Iraq. He captains both Al-Zawraa and the national team.

He won the Iraqi Premier League in 2017-18 and the Iraq FA Cup in 2018-19 with Al-Zawraa. His crowning achievement came at the 2023 Arabian Gulf Cup, where Iraq ended a 35-year wait for the trophy. He won Soccer Star Iraqi Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
