Edson Álvarez is the captain of the Mexico national team and one of the country's most accomplished midfielders, having won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax and earned close to 100 international caps.
Álvarez came through Club América's academy and made his Liga MX debut before joining AFC Ajax in 2019, where he spent four seasons and won consecutive Eredivisie titles in 2021 and 2022. He moved to West Ham United in the Premier League in 2023 and was later loaned to Fenerbahçe in 2025.
He has captained Mexico since taking on the armband and has earned 99 senior caps. He was part of three CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning squads (2019, 2023, 2025) and received the Golden Ball award at the 2025 Gold Cup.
