L'histoire
Widely considered one of the world's best goalkeepers, Martínez is renowned for his shot-stopping, penalty saves, and vocal leadership. He won the FIFA Best Goalkeeper award in 2022 and 2024, and the Yashin Trophy in 2023 and 2024.
After a decade at Arsenal — during which he was loaned to six clubs — Martínez finally established himself as first-choice keeper in Arsenal's 2019–20 FA Cup run. He moved to Aston Villa in 2020 and became one of the Premier League's elite goalkeepers, breaking the club record for clean sheets in a single season.
His international breakthrough came at the 2021 Copa América, where his penalty-shoot-out heroics earned him the Golden Glove. He repeated that feat at the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa América, giving Argentina a generation-defining goalkeeper across three major titles.
