L'histoire

Ritsu Dōan is a Japanese right winger who developed in the Netherlands before establishing himself in the Bundesliga, most notably at SC Freiburg where he spent three seasons. He scored twice at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including crucial goals against Germany and Spain, and joined Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2025.

Dōan started his professional career at Gamba Osaka before joining FC Groningen on loan in 2017, where he impressed with 9 goals in 29 appearances and drew comparisons to a teenage Arjen Robben. He signed permanently in 2018 then moved to PSV Eindhoven in 2019 on a five-year deal. A Bundesliga loan at Arminia Bielefeld (2020–21) yielded five goals in 34 appearances.

Dōan joined SC Freiburg in 2022, going on to make 97 Bundesliga appearances and 22 goals across three seasons, including 10 goals in 2024–25 to finish as the club's top scorer. He then signed for Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2025. Internationally, he won the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship, earned a KNVB Cup winner's medal with PSV in 2022, and earned widespread attention for his World Cup goals against Germany and Spain in Qatar.
