Ahmed Basil

Ahmed Basil is an Iraqi goalkeeper for Al-Shorta who has also represented Iraq at senior level. He became a regular starter during the club's run of domestic titles.

After early spells with Al-Taji, Al-Karkh and Al-Oloom wal-Technologia, Basil joined Al-Shorta in 2014. He later established himself as first choice, helped the club win successive league titles and captained them to the 2022 Iraqi Super Cup.

Basil debuted for Iraq in December 2022 and was selected for the Gulf Cup-winning squad and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
