The story
Aïssa Mandi is an Algerian centre-back with 117 international caps — the most in Algerian football history — who has spent his career across Ligue 1, La Liga and back to Ligue 1 with Lille.
Mandi spent seven seasons at Reims (2009–2016), making 161 appearances before moving to La Liga with Real Betis for five years. After three seasons at Villarreal, he joined Lille in 2024.
He made his Algeria debut in March 2014 and has represented the country at four World Cup qualification campaigns, the 2014 FIFA World Cup and six Africa Cup of Nations editions, winning the tournament in 2019. His 117 caps make him the record holder for Algeria.
