The story
Jackson Irvine is one of Australia's most-capped midfielders, with 82 appearances for the Socceroos. He has captained FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga and led Australia from March 2023.
Irvine developed through youth academies at Melbourne Victory and Celtic before establishing himself via loans at Kilmarnock and Ross County — winning the Scottish League Cup at the latter in 2015–16. Permanent moves to Burton Albion and then Hull City followed, before he joined Hibernian in 2021.
Since July 2021, Irvine has been at FC St. Pauli, becoming sole club captain in 2023–24 as the team won the 2. Bundesliga title and returned to the top flight. He featured in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, earning a place in the tournament's Team of the Tournament, and was named PFA Men's Footballer of the Year in 2024.
