Marten de Roon

A veteran Dutch defensive midfielder who has become Atalanta's all-time appearance record holder. He was part of Atalanta's historic 2023–24 UEFA Europa League-winning side and has been a loyal servant to the Bergamo club across two separate spells.

De Roon began his career at Sparta Rotterdam before moving to SC Heerenveen and then Atalanta in 2016. A brief spell at Middlesbrough in the Premier League was followed by his permanent return to Atalanta in 2017, where he became an indispensable defensive screen in midfield.

In March 2026 he surpassed Gianpaolo Bellini's all-time Atalanta appearance record with his 436th club match. His proudest moment in club football came in May 2024 as a starter in Atalanta's 3–0 UEFA Europa League final victory. He made his Netherlands debut in 2016 and has accumulated 43 senior caps.
