Olwethu Makhanya

Olwethu Makhanya is a South African defender who became Philadelphia Union's first under-22 initiative signing in 2023, having previously played for Stellenbosch FC. He was selected for South Africa's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

After 20 appearances for Stellenbosch FC, Makhanya moved to MLS side Philadelphia Union in 2023 as part of their under-22 programme, developing further with time in Philadelphia Union II. He can operate as a central defender in both a back four and a back three.

He made his senior international debut for South Africa in 2026 and was named in the national team's World Cup squad.
