The story

Zion Suzuki is a Japanese goalkeeper of Ghanaian-Japanese heritage who signed for Serie A side Parma in July 2024, becoming only the second Japanese international to represent the club. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he became Urawa Red Diamonds' youngest-ever professional signee at age 16.

Suzuki joined Urawa Red Diamonds' youth setup at age six, later becoming the club's youngest-ever professional at 16. He made his senior debut in the J.League Cup in March 2021 and went on to help the club win the Emperor's Cup (2021), the Japanese Super Cup (2022), and the AFC Champions League (2022). He then joined Sint-Truiden on loan in 2023, making 32 appearances before the transfer was made permanent.

In July 2024 he signed a five-year contract with Parma in Serie A. He has made his mark in Italy with 57 appearances across two seasons. Internationally, he debuted for Japan in July 2022 and has earned 24 caps, including appearances at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
