Silvan Widmer

Silvan Widmer is a Swiss right-back from Wettingen who has been Mainz 05 captain since 2021 and holds 60 senior Switzerland caps, having represented the country at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, and Euro 2024.

Widmer developed through Swiss football before joining Udinese in Serie A in 2013, where he made 131 appearances. He transferred to FC Basel for €5.5 million in 2018, winning the Swiss Cup in 2018–19 and earning back-to-back Super League Team of the Year selections.

In 2021 he moved to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, becoming team captain. He made his Switzerland senior debut in 2014 and has been a reliable right-back option in subsequent tournament squads.
