Jamiro Monteiro

Jamiro Monteiro is a Dutch-born Cape Verdean midfielder best known for his years in Major League Soccer with the Philadelphia Union, and has been a mainstay of the Cape Verde national team since 2016.

Born in Rotterdam to Cape Verdean parents, Monteiro started his professional career with SC Cambuur and later Heracles Almelo in the Netherlands before a stint in France with FC Metz. His move to Philadelphia Union in 2019 proved a breakthrough — as a Designated Player he helped the club lift the 2020 MLS Supporters' Shield. After spells at San Jose Earthquakes he returned to the Netherlands with PEC Zwolle in 2024.

Internationally, Monteiro has earned 49 caps and 5 goals for Cape Verde, featuring at the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, including a goal against Ghana at the 2023 tournament.
