Australia's most-capped active goalkeeper and national team captain, Mathew Ryan has represented the Socceroos at three FIFA World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022) and three AFC Asian Cups, winning the 2015 edition and earning the tournament's Golden Glove.
Ryan began his professional career with the Central Coast Mariners, winning the A-League Championship in 2013 and earning back-to-back Young Footballer of the Year awards. He moved to Europe with Club Brugge in Belgium, winning the Belgian Cup in 2015, before spells at Valencia CF, Brighton & Hove Albion (where he became a Premier League regular), Arsenal, Real Sociedad, and FC Copenhagen.
On the international stage, Ryan established himself as Australia's number-one goalkeeper from 2012 onwards, accumulating over 100 caps. He captained the Socceroos to the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, keeping clean sheets in both group-stage wins. Named AFC Asian Cup Golden Glove winner in 2015 and part of the 2023 Team of the Tournament, he leads the 2026 World Cup squad as both captain and first-choice keeper.
