Die Geschichte
A tall, physical Dutch target striker standing 197 cm, Weghorst is renowned for his relentless pressing and penalty-box finishing. He scored a famous late brace in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against Argentina and returned to Ajax in August 2024 after spells across Europe.
Weghorst progressed through Dutch football's lower leagues before establishing himself at Heracles and AZ Alkmaar. His four-year stint at VfL Wolfsburg (2018–2022) was the highlight of his club career, scoring 70 goals in 144 appearances and earning a move to Burnley, with subsequent loans to Besiktas and Manchester United.
He returned to the Bundesliga with TSG Hoffenheim before joining Ajax in August 2024. Internationally he has been a consistent presence for the Netherlands, perhaps best remembered for his two-goal cameo that nearly overturned a 2–0 deficit against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final.
