Bruno Guimarães

Bruno Guimarães is Brazil's first-choice central midfielder and Newcastle United's captain — a combative, technically polished box-to-box presence who led Newcastle to their first domestic trophy in 70 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup.

Guimarães progressed through Audax and then Athletico Paranaense, winning domestic Brazilian honours before attracting Lyon's attention. He joined the French club in 2020, impressing in Ligue 1 before Newcastle United signed him in January 2022 for approximately £40 million in a transfer that quickly looked like outstanding business.

He became the heartbeat of Newcastle's midfield, earning the club captaincy in August 2024, and led them to the Carabao Cup title in March 2025 — their first major domestic trophy since 1955. He was named Newcastle Player of the Year for 2025–26. At international level, he won Olympic gold with Brazil's U-23 side at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has been a regular senior Brazil international since.
