La historia
Marquinhos is the captain of the Brazil national team and one of PSG's greatest ever defenders — a two-time UEFA Champions League winner with the club who has earned over 100 international caps combining elegance, reading of the game, and composure on the ball.
Marquinhos joined Corinthians's youth system and won the Copa Libertadores before a move to Roma, then transferred to PSG in 2013 for €31.4 million — a significant fee for a teenager at the time. He waited patiently before nailing down his place, then became one of the club's most important players, taking the captaincy after Thiago Silva's departure in 2020.
Under his leadership PSG finally broke through in European competition, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2025 and retaining it in 2026. Internationally, Marquinhos won Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and the Copa América in 2019, accumulating 105 caps — a tally that makes him one of Brazil's most experienced ever defenders. He was appointed permanent Brazil captain in recent years.
