La historia

Maximiliano Araújo is a Uruguayan left-sided attacker who developed through Liga MX before joining Sporting CP in 2024, where he won the Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal in his debut season and was named in the league's Team of the Season in 2025-26. He represented Uruguay at the 2024 Copa América and earned around 28 senior caps.

Araújo came through Montevideo Wanderers' youth academy and turned professional in 2018. Spells at Puebla and Toluca in Mexican football over four seasons raised his profile sufficiently for Sporting CP to invest in him on a five-year deal in August 2024.

He adapted quickly to Portuguese football and made an instant impact, contributing to Sporting's double of Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal. He also scored on his Champions League debut against Manchester City in November 2024.
