Ronald Araújo

Ronald Araújo is a Uruguayan centre-back who developed through the lower levels of Uruguayan football before establishing himself as one of FC Barcelona's most important defenders, earning three La Liga titles and serving as a club captain. His combination of physical strength, pace and aerial ability has made him one of the standout central defenders in La Liga.

Araújo began his career as a forward at Huracán de Rivera before converting to centreback at 17 with Rentistas. Boston River gave him further experience before Barcelona signed him for their B side in 2018, and he made his senior debut in 2019.

He rapidly became a fixture in the first team, winning La Liga in 2022-23 and further titles in subsequent seasons. He was named third captain of the club from July 2023 and has earned over 25 caps for Uruguay, including a goal against Argentina in November 2023.
