L'histoire

A veteran Belgian midfielder who amassed 137 international caps across a career spanning Standard Liège, Benfica, Zenit, Borussia Dortmund and Atlético Madrid, and won the 2008 Belgian Golden Shoe.

Witsel emerged from Standard Liège, winning the Belgian Golden Shoe in 2008 and helping the club to back-to-back league titles. He moved to Benfica and then Zenit Saint Petersburg, where he won the Russian league and cup, before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2018 and claiming the DFB-Pokal in 2021.

He accumulated 137 caps for Belgium across three World Cups and three European Championships, including Belgium's famous third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup. Late in his career he joined Atlético Madrid and then Girona FC, demonstrating his durability at the highest level.
