L'histoire
One of Europe's premier midfielders, Frenkie de Jong excels in possession-based football and ball progression. He starred in Ajax's iconic 2018–19 Champions League run before joining Barcelona for €75 million, where he was appointed captain in 2023.
De Jong came through Willem II and Ajax's academy, and his performances in Ajax's 2018–19 campaign — when the club reached the Champions League semi-finals — made him one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe. Barcelona signed him in 2019 and he has grown into the club's focal midfield player.
Since arriving at the Camp Nou, he has won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and multiple Supercopa de España crowns. He was named Barcelona captain in 2023, surpassing club records for Dutch player appearances, and represents the Netherlands regularly at major tournaments.
