Mats Wieffer

A combative Dutch defensive midfielder who rose through Excelsior to establish himself at Feyenoord, helping them win the Eredivisie title in 2022–23. Brighton & Hove Albion signed him in July 2024 for approximately €30 million — Feyenoord's most expensive outgoing transfer at the time.

Wieffer developed at FC Twente's academy before joining Excelsior in 2020, where his performances earned promotion to the Eredivisie. Feyenoord signed him in 2022, and he was instrumental in the club winning their first Eredivisie title in six years in 2022–23, adding a KNVB Cup medal in 2023–24.

Brighton acquired him in July 2024 and he has been compared favourably to former Seagulls midfielders Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister for his technical and defensive qualities. He has represented the Netherlands at senior level and was named in the 2026 World Cup squad.
