L'histoire

Rodrigo Aguirre is a Uruguayan striker who followed a circuitous route through European and South American football before breaking through at international level in 2024. After winning the Liga MX Apertura with Club América, he joined Tigres UANL in 2026 and earned his first Uruguay senior caps the same year.

Aguirre developed at Liverpool Montevideo, scoring 16 goals in 57 appearances, before Udinese signed him for around €4 million in 2014. His Italian spell proved inconsistent, with several loans, and he returned to South America in 2019, finding better form at LDU Quito over three seasons.

A move to Club América in 2024 proved timely — he contributed to their Liga MX Apertura title and earned his senior Uruguay debut in November 2024. He transferred to Tigres UANL in early 2026 and was included in Uruguay's 2026 World Cup squad.
