Tomas Araujo

Tomás Araújo is a versatile Benfica defender capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, who emerged through the club's academy to become a regular in the senior squad. His technical quality and positional awareness earned him back-to-back Primeira Liga Defender of the Month awards in 2024–25.

Araújo joined Benfica's academy in 2016 and worked his way through the youth ranks before making his senior bow in 2021. A loan spell at Gil Vicente in 2022–23 sharpened his development, and on returning to Benfica he established himself under manager Bruno Lage, winning the Taça da Liga in 2025 and the Supertaça in 2023. He was also part of the Benfica B side that won the UEFA Youth League in 2021–22.

He made his Portugal senior debut in November 2024 and has collected three caps to date. Recognised for his composure and ability to operate across the back line, he was named Primeira Liga Defender of the Month in both November 2024 and February 2025.
